Troop Community Service Projects

One of the core activities of Troop 110 is community service.  Each year our scouts are involved in a range of service projects.  We are currently stewards of the Lynnhurst Recreation Center courtyard garden, where our scouts prepare the soil, plant and maintain the flowers and vegetables, harvest produce to be donated to food shelves, and clean the garden at the end of the season.

Other activities include regular assistance to our charter organization, Mount Olivet Lutheran church, where we help with setup and take down at the garage sale, and assist as servers at the Men’s Club dinners.  We typically help out cleaning park lands on Earth Day, and have volunteered at Second Harvest Heartland, among other local non-profits.

Eagle Scout Service Projects

Perhaps our most rewarding community service efforts are the Eagle Scout Service Projects that each of our senior scouts plan, lead, and execute as part of their efforts to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.  These Eagle projects have included a Run for Hunger planned and organized by a senior at Patrick Henry High School, which involved a community fun run and food drive.  Other Eagle projects, past and present, have included clothing drives, building nesting boxes for mason bees (an important native pollinator), and design and construction of tables and benches for a Minneapolis high school court yard.
